Sensory labs aim to develop the whole student, and do so through movement. As research has shown, there is a strong link between movement and learning. By developing sensory skills, students are better able to improve their memory, stay on task and focused in the classroom, and regulate their emotions through enhanced self awareness. I truly believe in the positive impact a school sensory program can have in helping to cultivate more mindful and engaged learners. All of the equipment and products I have selected will be used by students in grades K-5, and are beneficial in improving a wide range of fine and gross motor skills, such as walking, balancing, crawling, and grasping. The various balance products listed such as Bosu balls, stability cushions, and exercise balls will provide both flexible seating and equipment used for calming exercises such as yoga. Balancing beams, stepping stones, tunnels, foam wedges, and parachutes are all products that can help to create sensory-rich activities and are also huge hits with the students! I have seen how sensory interventions can help students to experience continued growth throughout their academic endeavors, and hope that these products will help us to implement a sensory lab program that will accomplish just that!
