After students are divided into groups of 3 to 4 students, each group will start to write a story that is related to Chinese culture and appeals to readers using the story mountain. Their story should include an introduction of the story background with the main characters, development and rising of conflicts, climax as problems reach the highest point, the main characters resolve the problems, how things end up in the story, and the theme of the story as what can one learn from this story. Then they will expand their story with a narrative story with dialogue among the characters in the story to create a movie script. After their movie script has been edited and proofread, they will start filming their movie. They will add background music, Chinese and English subtitles, special effects, edit the film, etc. After they complete making their movie, they will do a gallery walk to watch other groups' movies and to ask and answer questions regarding their own movie and other groups' movies. Afterward, every student will write a movie critics on one movie he/she watched. Students from each group may choose to edit their movie further based on the critiques from their classmates.
Lastly, a movie festival will be held and there will be judges from the local community and students' parents to gather together to watch all the movies created by my students. Judges and parents will be voting as to which movie is the winner for Best Story Awards, Best Director Awards, Best Photography Awards, Best Actor Awards, Best Movie Editing Awards, Best Background Music Awards, the Most Popular Movie Awards, etc. Individual students and student groups will be going up to the stage to be recognized and receive the award trophy with prizes to reward their hard work, creativity, and team synergy.
