Social-Emotional Learning is a critical component in helping students with self-esteem, self-regulation, and social skills. When students feel safe and understanding of their own emotions, and how to self-regulate they are better able to access their curriculum and succeed academically.
By building my office library I will be able to use bibliotherapy with my students, and build extension activities off these children's books to help instill skills related to positive risk taking, and positive coping skills. In addition, by adding bilingual resources I can help to reach more of my bilingual students so that they too can build their coping toolbox.
Through gaining these resources I will be able to connect with more staff (both mainstream and bilingual classrooms) to build a positive classroom climate among students and their teachers. In addition these resources will assist me in working with my school team through collaboration to roll out school-wide lessons related to Social Emotional Learning, which can then also be shared out with parents of our students. In helping to address our students social-emotional needs we can help build success amongst our students.
