In Pre-K, When We Play We Learn!

Wow! It is hard to find the right words to describe the impact these materials have had on my students. When the packages arrived, I told them it would be like Christmas morning and we would open them together. Sadly, many of my students do not get to experience a Christmas like most of us, and so this concept was a little foreign to them. We took turns pulling items out of the boxes (every student was able to pull at least one item from the box) and each time the room would fill with ooooohs and ahhhhhs (and squeals of joy). We spent the entire day that day (and every day since) "playing" and learning with our new materials. My students were engaged and asking me, as well as students, amazing questions as they explored the materials (especially the OSMOs and the boulder builders). Higher order thinking questions like, "How can we make this tower taller without falling over?" And "How many more dots do I need to make 5?" What's even more amazing is that my other students were coming up with some amazing answers! These moments might not have been possible if it were not for these new products.
