Sensory materials provide many benefits for children with disabilities. Sensory rooms can help those who have learning difficulties, developmental disabilities, self-regulation deficits, or sensory impairments learn to interact with the world and people around them, but in a safe environment that builds up their confidence. These items will benefit students with multiple disabilities and age levels by providing sensory input that cannot be provided within the boundaries of the classroom. Each of the items we are requesting will benefit our students in a variety of ways. The swing and rocker provided an area for students to exercise and use built up energy all while providing sensory input. The light projector will allow for a dim, calm environment. Sensory stimulation can engage different areas of the brain, helping children absorb and retain more information and better meet the needs of the individual child. Having these necessary materials available will create an environment that promotes self-regulation and attention.
