  • Help With Flexible Seating and Our Classroom Beautification!

    Funded Aug 9, 2024

Thank you so much for contributing to my project. My students and I so greatly appreciate your generosity. We are better for it! We now have the seats and organizational strategies to better learn and grow this school year. It is people like you that help all students be successful.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Reichelderfer

  • Books Galore!

    Funded Jun 22, 2018

We have loved having these new books. They are helping me excite all my readers and keep them engaged during independent reading time. Our library needed some spice, so thank you. I have already had many students who struggled to focus on reading last year (or struggled to stick to a book) finish entire 100+ page chapter books!

We are currently learning about human rights. We are close reading the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and reading fiction and non-fiction books that relate to this topic to bring the document alive and make it relevant. That's where many of these books come in. During independent reading time students are reading the new books with themes on human rights (e.g. Razia's Ray of Hope, Sylvia and Aki, New Shoes) and marking where they identify a character's human right has been threatened. Through literature, my students are becoming more informed world citizens.

    Thanks again for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Reichelderfer

I am looping up with my students this coming year (I am going to have the same students for 5th that I had for 4th), so I have the unique opportunity to revitalize my classroom library with specific students in mind. All the books on this list fulfill at least one of these three criteria: the book supports understanding of a topic my students will be learning about in 5th grade (e.g. human rights, natural disasters), it fits my goal to create a classroom library with a diverse set of protagonists or it was a book I knew a specific student or group of students would find interesting (I had them vote on books and some of them made it on this list!) Through this list of books, I want to inspire my students. I want to inspire them to read, so I chose books I know they will find interesting. I want to inspire them to see the beauty in who they are, so I chose books that have kids on the covers that are similar to them in some way. Last but not least, I want to inspire them to be better world citizens, so I chose books with a diverse set of people and situations in order to expand their understanding of the human experience.
