My students struggle with math and reading so it's extremely important that their learning be fun, engaging an, and most importantly, motivating. Ozobots give them their own little robot that they can learn how to program using magic markers or an iPad. They then have a little friend with them as they build their math and reading skills, solve problems and watch their coding skills come to life. Students can observe the Ozobots behavior as it moves around, changes color and does whatever else they have coded it to do. They can follow it along a story path they've created to retell a story they just read. They can write down the random one digit numbers it drives over and practice their fact fluency, make multi-digit numbers and/or place those numbers on a number line. They can use an iPad to use block coding to program the Ozobot to travel around a piece of paper as if it were going on errands to the post office, grocery store and then back home. My students are struggling learners and may be hesitant to sign up for arobotics course where they would learn programming skills. Having Ozobots in their classroom gives them access to this technology, helps boost their confidence and causes them to want to keep on learning. They diligently learn how to use the Ozobots, bring high levels of excitement and enthusiasm every time they Ozobots come out, and they always want to do more and more. Ozobots put a little pep in their steps and make them want to jump higher and higher with their learning!
