I would like to add some new and exciting manipulatives into my small groups! Teachers understand that manipulatives provide a concrete foundation for learning abstract ideas. The items that I am asking for would support differentiated learning styles in my math and reading small groups. I have seen first hand the excitement students feel when they use letter tiles, stamps, math games, etc. If a student can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn. A teacher can make manipulatives using just about anything. However, there's something about brand new, store bought, educational manipulatives that get the students excited to learn! The math manipulatives I have requested will be used within small math centers and will be differentiated to meet the group and individual student needs. For example the math stamps will be an exciting way for the students to answer multiplication and division questions. The liquid measurement tools will give the students a hands-on experience to visually see the comparison between amounts. The math write and wipe boards will give the students the opportunity to practice and answer problems without interrupting the other groups. The reading manipulatives will serve the same purpose. The letter tiles will help with building spelling words and sentences while the synonym and antonym cards will provide a hands-on practice tool for students who struggle. I am excited to add any of the materials that I am requesting to my classroom. I know my Special Education students and my lower level general education students will greatly appreciate the donations as well! Thank you for any support you can give my class!
