  • Media Literacy for EL Students

    Funded Dec 24, 2019

This was a great surprise to me since I know holiday time gets expensive with buying gifts for everyone. Thank you so much for your donations to my classroom, which I hope will excite my students as they read more about current events in the world, gaining a greater understanding of the world they live in.”

    With gratitude,

  • Developing a Love of Reading

    Funded Nov 22, 2019

Thank you for donating to my students! I’m so excited to share this amazing selection of books with them and hopefully convince them that reading can be fun and exciting! The future of our world depends on the students we have in middle schools today. Reading is core to learning. Thank you, thank you!”

  • Learning To Be Organized!

    Funded Dec 26, 2018

The binders we now have for our classroom have made a huge difference for my students in not only their every day organization, but also their views of organization and how it can help them become a better student. The students have a routine in which they get their binders at the start of the class each day, they open to their warm-ups section to complete their warm-ups, then they turn to their Unit section to complete worksheets. Before we had the binders, students would lose papers constantly. Now, they are much better at keeping track of their important papers. The project was called "Learning to be Organized" and it certainly worked out that way: students learned to be organized, and they learned the value of organization and how it can lead to their success in many aspects of their lives, not just in school.”

  • Interactive English Grammar and Writing Notebooks

    Funded Nov 20, 2018

Thank you for your generous donations to my students and my classroom. My students are not the students that I began the school year with because I moved schools, but the students at my new school are just as wonderful as the students at my last school. My students use the materials from this donors choose project on a daily basis. We not only use them for our English notebooks, but for daily routines such as annotating with the highlighters, pens, and pencils, as well as the white out for when students want to tidy up their day-to-day work.

The students were shocked to realize that strangers had donated materials to us, and couldn't imagine why anyone would give their money away to people they may never meet in their lives. They have learned the power of the ripple effect of donating money to good causes, which I hope they will take with them into their futures.

Students are currently reading The Giver, a dystopian novel by Lois Lowry, and they are opening their eyes to reading in a whole new way. It seems that many of them have never enjoyed reading, but a newfound joy is being sparked because of this fantastic book with a powerful, realistic message. The discussions we are having surrounding this book is sometimes mind-blowing; the insights of 13-14 year olds is much deeper than we give them credit for.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bellows

The materials for this project will be used by students to create their individual, personalized, interactive notebooks, which will be used as a tool to better learn English Grammar and writing skills. Students will be able to personalize their notebooks through doodling and coloring while following along with a teacher model to keep things organized. Students will be able to access these notebooks when working on essays, projects, and even simple writing assignments throughout the class period. The students can continue to utilize these interactive notebooks throughout high school and college. The notebooks work as a self-created English Grammar handbook. Colored paper helps students quickly locate information, and highlighters, colored pens, scissors, tape, and glue help to keep things organized. Students will also learn the importance of organization through the creation of this interactive notebook.
