Funded Nov 20, 2018Thank you for your generous donations to my students and my classroom. My students are not the students that I began the school year with because I moved schools, but the students at my new school are just as wonderful as the students at my last school. My students use the materials from this donors choose project on a daily basis. We not only use them for our English notebooks, but for daily routines such as annotating with the highlighters, pens, and pencils, as well as the white out for when students want to tidy up their day-to-day work.
The students were shocked to realize that strangers had donated materials to us, and couldn't imagine why anyone would give their money away to people they may never meet in their lives. They have learned the power of the ripple effect of donating money to good causes, which I hope they will take with them into their futures.
Students are currently reading The Giver, a dystopian novel by Lois Lowry, and they are opening their eyes to reading in a whole new way. It seems that many of them have never enjoyed reading, but a newfound joy is being sparked because of this fantastic book with a powerful, realistic message. The discussions we are having surrounding this book is sometimes mind-blowing; the insights of 13-14 year olds is much deeper than we give them credit for.”
With gratitude,
