  • "Striking Opportunities: Empowering Youth Through Bowling"

    Funded Feb 23, 2025

This project provided essential equipment that allowed us to incorporate an inclusive and adaptable sport into our curriculum, meeting the diverse needs and skill levels of all our students. By integrating bowling, we were able to strengthen students' motor skills, improve hand-eye coordination, and promote teamwork and sportsmanship in a fun, interactive way.

The impact on our students has been profound. Not only did they improve their physical fitness, but they also developed crucial social skills such as communication, collaboration, and resilience. Bowling allowed students to work together in teams, supporting each other through challenges, celebrating successes, and learning to handle setbacks with grace. This experience has fostered a sense of community within our physical education classes and encouraged a positive attitude toward physical activity.

The skills learned through this project extend beyond the gym, contributing to the overall development of our students. By providing a new and exciting activity, we have inspired a love for physical activity that students will carry with them for years to come, making a lasting impact on their overall well-being.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. C.

  • Tchoukball: Building Teamwork and Fitness, One Bounce at a Time!

    Funded Dec 31, 2024

On behalf of the students and staff at Rowe Elementary, I want to extend my gratitude for your generous contribution to our Tchoukball project. Thanks to your support, our students now have the opportunity to engage with this unique and exciting sport, helping them build physical, social, and life skills in a fun and inclusive environment.

The rebound nets, balls, and other gear have provided a fresh, dynamic way for students to stay active, build fitness, and, most importantly, work together in a supportive and cooperative atmosphere. Beyond the physical benefits, Tchoukball has encouraged critical thinking, problem-solving, and sportsmanship in our students, giving them the confidence to approach challenges with determination and creativity.

Your generosity is not just an investment in equipment—it's an investment in our students' futures. You've given them the chance to discover a new sport, engage with their peers in new ways, and grow both as athletes and individuals. For that, we are incredibly grateful.

Thank you again for helping to bring this vision to life. Your support is making a difference, one Tchoukball bounce at a time!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. C.

  • Kicking Off Success: Indoor Soccer

    Funded Oct 9, 2024

I am so excited to share the incredible impact your generous donation has had on my students through the "Kicking Off Success: Indoor Soccer" project. With the new indoor soccer equipment, my students have had the opportunity to learn and practice key soccer skills in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment. From dribbling and passing to shooting and teamwork, the students have been actively developing their coordination, communication, and critical thinking. The hands-on practice has allowed them to build their confidence while staying active and engaged.

When the materials first arrived, the excitement in the classroom was palpable! My students couldn't wait to get their hands on the new soccer balls, cones, and goals. Their faces lit up with enthusiasm as they immediately started practicing their dribbling skills and perfecting their passes. One of the most inspiring moments was watching them work together during small-sided games, where they not only focused on improving their individual abilities but also supported each other as teammates. The value of good sportsmanship was evident as they celebrated each other's successes and encouraged their peers after a missed shot or a mistake.

As we continue to build on these skills, our next steps will involve applying everything we've learned in mini soccer games that emphasize teamwork, strategy, and fair play. My students are looking forward to not only refining their skills but also understanding how sportsmanship extends beyond the field, impacting their interactions with others in the classroom and beyond. Thanks to your support, these young athletes are gaining valuable life skills that will serve them both in and out of the gym.

Thank you again for helping to make this project a reality! Your contribution is shaping my students' futures and inspiring them to achieve success both in sports and in life.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. C.

  • PE Power-Up: Instant Activities to Boost Student Engagement

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of our DonorsChoose grant.

Thanks to your contributions, our Physical Education classes at RES have transformed into vibrant spaces of learning and movement. The new equipment allows us to implement engaging activities right from the moment students walk in. Students cheered as they explored new skills and worked together, fostering a sense of community and fun.

When the materials first arrived, the students were overjoyed! Their enthusiasm has only grown, and they are now more motivated than ever to participate and learn about the importance of physical activity and healthy eating.

Moving forward, we're diving into lessons that connect fitness with nutrition, encouraging students to make healthier choices in their daily lives. Your support is not just an investment in equipment; it's an investment in our students' futures and well-being.

Thank you once again for believing in our mission and for making a difference in our students' lives!”

  • "Leap, Hop, and Team Up: Building Skills Through Obstacle Adventures

    Funded Mar 30, 2024

Your generous contributions to our grant, "Leap, Hop, and Team Up: Building Skills Through Obstacle Adventures," have made a profound impact on both my students and me. I cannot express enough how grateful we are for your kindness and belief in our vision.

Your support has allowed us to embark on an exciting journey of exploration and learning, using obstacle adventures as a vehicle for skill-building and growth. The materials we have acquired through your donations have transformed the gym into a dynamic space where creativity, collaboration, and resilience flourish.

When the students first laid eyes on the materials, their reactions were nothing short of pure delight and wonder. Their eyes lit up with excitement as they envisioned the endless possibilities that lay before them. It was a joyous moment that reminded me of the transformative power of hands-on learning experiences.

Once again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your unwavering support and generosity. Your investment in our students' education is a gift that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact for years to come.

    With heartfelt appreciation”

    Mr. C.

  • PE Goals to Score On

    Funded Oct 5, 2023

The first thing we at Rowe Elementary School wants to say is... Thank you! We have recently received the equipment that was purchased through the "PE Goals to Score On" DonorsChoose grant and we are so excited to provide even more games and activities for our students.

Each year, we strive to bring our students the best possible physical education program, however, with the costs of equipment, it can be hard to create programs that teachers the concepts and skills needed to support student learning.

In the end, your gift is going to our students and they can't thank you enough too. There were tons of laughter echoing in the gymnasium while students used the equipment.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. C.

  • Stack It Up

    Funded Nov 8, 2022

"Wow, what are those?" was heard all around the Rowe gym as students entered the gym getting ready for our speed stacking unit.

Speed Stacking is in more than 40,000 schools and youth organizations worldwide. Students love it because it's easy to learn but very challenging to master. Benefits include improved reaction time, hand-eye coordination, concentration and focus.

Our classes will continue using the Speed Stacking equipment from year to year as they progress through the grades and improve on their skills.

Thanks again for your donation and dedication to helping students in the Rowe community develop as young adults.

    Keep Moving & Have Fun.

    YOU ARE AWESOME!

    Mr. Custeau”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. C.

  • Let's Work Together

    Funded Dec 15, 2021

The first thing we at Rowe Elementary School wants to say is... Thank you! We have recently received the equipment that was purchased through the "Let's Work Together" DonorsChoose grant and are so excited to provide even more "teamwork" activities for our students.

Each year, we strive to bring our students the best possible physical education program, however, with the costs of equipment, it can be hard to create programs that teachers the concepts and skills needed to support student learning.

In the end, your gift is going to our students and they can't thank you enough too. There were tons of laughter echoing in the gymnasium while students attempted the challenges. They have enjoyed using the equipment and learning the life-long skills of cooperation.”

  • Let's Get Outside and Play

    Funded Nov 1, 2021

Thank you so much for funding my "Let's Get Outside and Play" grant. The students were very excited when the "package of Equipment" arrived and I revealed what our next outdoor unit was going to be, Soccer!

I used the materials to teach my students how to organize and play the great game of soccer. They used what they learned and now the soccer field is always full during recess time.

    "Hey, pass it here!"

"What a great save you just made!"

    "Ahmed, come join our team!"

These are some of the comments you would hear If you were able to visit the soccer field at our school during recess.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. C.

  • Learning Literacy Through Movement

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

You made my day and the days of many youngsters in our great Rowe School community!

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your support for our Learning Literacy through Movement project this year!

Here in the Portland School System we have a "Portland Promise". Our four goals, Achievement, Whole Student, Equity and People, serve as an important blueprint to guide student learning. The Portland Promise details key strategies for meeting those goals, and defines the metrics we use to measure our progress as a school district.

Your generous donations of $578 want a long way to helping our students reach the "Portland Promise" by teaching them identifying letters strategies and setting them up to love reading. In fact, with your gifts, we will be able to provide all Pre-K, K & 1st grade students, here at Rowe an experience dedicated to literacy and movement.

Thank you! You have made a real difference in the lives of the kids we serve. Thanks to you, all children involved will move forward in their education.

Thank you once again for your donation. It means the world to us!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. C.

Teachers seem to have more and more to do every day. We try to be there for all of our students at all times, but understandably, that is not possible. Often a student will try and interrupt a small group to find out what a word means or ask a question about spelling. It is hard to not answer the child, but it is also difficult to take time away from a teachable moment. What if my English language learners could walk up to an Echo and say, "Alexa, what is discouraged?" Or what if they could walk up to the Echo and ask it a question in Arabic, to clarify something they are doing in English? More and more newcomers are arriving at our school, not able to speak any English at all. We use google translate sometimes, but the Echo would be so convenient in each classroom. When I began this grant I was only asking for one Echo. But my students spend time in the other three classrooms as well, so I thought if we could have 2 Echo dots in the other rooms, we could make sure they were always available to all of our students. It is also a great tool for our native English speakers. They can use it for quick references or spelling. They could use it as a thesaurus.
