Personalized Learning in The Classroom
Funded Oct 11, 2023Thank you so much for helping provide headphones to the students in our classrooms. It might seem like a small thing, but it makes all the difference when it comes to individualizing education for students. How can we make sure that students are getting what they need in a class of 30 other students? How can students being learning through different modalities without distracting the classmate next to them?
One of the biggest impacts having headphones in the classroom is seen with our ENL students. I currently have a class that has students who speak Bengla and Spanish and I need to be able to prime them for their lesson that will be taught in English. With the use of headphones, students who speak other primary languages can watch videos and listen to texts in their language while I begin the lesson with the rest of the class. They are then able to join the rest of the class, having background knowledge in their own language of what we will be talking about in class.
Another population where this can make a big difference is with struggling readers. As a 9th grade teacher, I still have many students who are reading far below grade level. When giving more complex texts (especially with new science vocabulary), struggling readers can listen to the text read out loud in their headphones and still join in to high level conversations with their peers.
Thank you for helping our classroom more inclusive for all students,”

Funded Jan 16, 2019Thank you so much for contributing four new laptops to our classroom! At our school, technology is a luxury, where there are just not enough computer or tablets for an entire class of students. My students work on computers to complete secondary research or type lab reports, and we now have more access for more students.
The most exciting part of having these computers is that my students are more engaged in learning. They see their research and lab reports as more official as they use them to publish their work. They have started to see themselves as real scientists!
Students who otherwise find it hard to engage in class have become more engaged with the use of technology in the classroom. Computers help me differentiate lessons so that students who are going above and beyond can start their own research and projects independently.
Thanks again for helping support my classroom!”

Ms. Spears
