The incredibly bright, curious, kind, thoughtful students in our 5th grade Dual Language class deserve interesting, relevant and meaningful books in Spanish. This collection of books in Spanish will be used not only in our class, but also at home to read with their families. One book, "¿Quién es Malala Yousafzai?/ Who is Malala Yousafzai? would be the perfect title to read as a class to learn about this inspiring young woman. In addition to that, we would like to read "Frida, el misterio del anillo del pavo real y yo (Me, Frida, and the Secret of the Peacock Ring)" as a book study. Both of these titles will be encouraged to be read at home with students' families, too, who are Spanish speakers. Lastly, students will use the collection of "Who Was...?" books to complete daily Reader's Response entries in their notebooks. These books will be rotated throughout the year so as to maximize the amount of titles being read in Spanish by all students. Having meaningful books in Spanish will help increase student and parent engagement in our class/school community by inviting parents and students to use their home and second languages.
