I teach in a Title 1 elementary (K-6) school, where the majority of our 650 students are from lower income families. In addition, approximately 95% of our students are English Language Learners (ELL). Our school also has refugee housing within our boundaries which has resulted in about 30 different languages being spoken. Coding is a universal language! How wonderful it would be for all of our students to be involved in a curriculum where everyone can communicate. Coding can also be a great collaborative activity which will encourage the kiddos from so many countries to work together to accomplish goals. Our faculty has voted to convert an entire classroom into a Makerspace because we recognize how important STEM education is. All students in all of the grades will have the opportunity to work with the Ozobots which will provide an engaging and dynamic way to learn and practice their coding skills.
