In my classroom, I implement brain breaks, interactive learning and movement to help keep my students focused. Students who have attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity issues especially struggle to stay focused throughout the day. Wobble stools will be used at students' seats in place of a traditional classroom chair. I have borrowed a "wobble stool" from my school's occupational therapist and saw firsthand the noticeable difference in my students' engagement and attention. Students are able to "wobble" and get the sensory input or output they need, while remaining on task and working. Many of my students need to be in motion to concentrate. Engaging their body helps them better retain information and work out cognitive problems. It's recently been shown that kids with ADHD actually learn better while they're moving. I personally believe that this also applies to all kinesthetic learners. The base of the wobble stools are rounded, allowing the student to wiggle and fidget without the stool tipping over. I would like to introduce wobble stools in my classroom to provide flexible seating options for my students, that would allow them to maintain attention and focus. Thank you for your help! I am excited to provide my students with tools to help them become more successful!
