Soaking Up Science Every Day!
Funded Feb 19, 2019Thank you so much for your amazing gift. My students were very enthusiastic to receive the wonderful Science supplies from your program. There was a big uproar in my classroom as I opened each package. I informed them that these supplies were to enhance their Science learning experiences in class and that we would share them with other grade levels.
In class, my students became more excited, engaged and just willing to participate and do their hands-on exploration during our science lessons. The books and supplies that DonorsChoose proved us were plentiful and spot on for our Science learning targets. During our science lessons, I was able to create group projects for my students to do free exploration tasks, hit our Science standards effectively and incorporate the online links. My students simply loved their Science hour and they could not wait to get their work started. During Open House, my parents were able to see their child's Science activities and students enjoyed the sharing of their projects with their families. The learning was exciting and the long time knowledge they experienced was priceless. Science came alive in class and many students wanted to further explore concepts learned at home, too.
I shared these supplies with fellow teachers for their grade level Science activities and they all expressed their appreciation. They were very happy to have access to these amazing DonorsChoose supplies. My staff and students thank you with a big smile.”

Building Life Long Readers!!
Funded Jun 15, 2018I am simply thrilled to write this "Thank You" letter. Your amazing gift has brought a great deal of joy and enthusiasm to my students. When the boxes arrived to my class filled with wonderful books, my students were extremely surprised. They had many questions about who gave them to us, where do they live, how much did they cost and why did they give it to our class. I explained to them about what was Donorschoose and how it worked. They could not believe it. They asked right away..."Can we send they a thank you letter?" They loved all the titles of the chapter books that were gifted to us. They actually fought over the titles so I arranged a system of checking out books so all students could circular it and have equal opportunity to check out a story and read for enjoyment. They are still enjoying the stories in class, for homework and even during their Christmas vacation. I had a student who was absent due to a family emergency out of town and asked to take two books to enjoy and read while away. She was able to continue practicing her reading skills, enjoy the stories and be home with her family during that emergency. She loved the books and shared them with her family during her absence. I felt that reading her books even during her absence helped keep her connected to our class.
In class, I am using the books during reading centers to help my students emerge into a story, build their comprehension and develop their writing skills. They first read a story of their choice, answer a few questions about the story elements, key vocabulary and write a paragraph about it. They use Chromebooks to type out their work and turn it in for a reading grade. I have collected their work for report cards and show parents their finished products and academic progress during conferences. Their love of reading has increased greatly and they continue checking out more books.
For homework assignments, I am using these chapter books for nightly reading logs and monthly book reports. Students have to check out a book, read it every day for homework, write a reflection about each chapter read and prepare a book report project at the end of the month about that story. They also have a chance to make a formal presentation in class when they are done with that story. They have shared wonderful ideas learned from their books. Reading is interactive, exciting and enjoyable in my class due to this gift of chapter books. My students are growing stronger as proficient readers. They have sharpen their reading and writing skills. They love to read. Reading is no longer a laborious chore but a pleasure to do! I thank you once more for your generous gift.”
