Thank you so much for funding my project!! The document camera is going to be put to good use teaching math with manipulatives virtually and for an upcoming chicken egg hatching. The headphones will also be utilized to ensure clear audio of the instruction to ensure the highest level of understanding can be achieved.”

  • Empowered Engineers Use 3D Modeling

    Funded Feb 16, 2020

I’m beyond grateful to each of your for helping to bring my vision to life!! My classroom is full of real world learning experiences that prepare students to be successful long after their school careers are over. In a world of constantly evolving technology, it’s impossible to know exactly what future jobs they are being prepared for. The 3D printer will help them to practice valuable skills with 3D modeling which involves mathematical thinking and technological skills. I absolutely cannot wait to see what they come up with and create!”

  • Which Came First? The Chicken or the Egg?

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

The project was incredible and beyond what I could have ever imagined! I was able to expand the learning experience that you helped to provide FAR beyond my classroom into the local community reaching more students than I could have hoped, as well as, their families and other invested stakeholders.

We began the project on March 19th placing the eggs in the incubator. My students were full of questions and excitement. My students wrote a reflection journal to share their thoughts and learning so I will quote one of my students from that first day to truly show the impact: "

Today we got seven baby chickens and began the developing process. Mrs.Vice showed us lots of pictures. I am super excited about these eggs. Today, we put the eggs into the incubator and they have to turn every 45 minutes. On the first day you can not see anything but the air pocket and the yolk...if you do not know what yolk is, it is the yellow stuff inside a boiled egg! Except that the yellow yolk is food for the baby chicks to eat while they develop. We cannot look at the egg until day four using a special tool called a candler to see inside of the egg." The students continued to stay engaged throughout the entire process. We ended up with one egg that was a yolker meaning that it was never fertilized. Another quit developing around day five, but students were able to take this opportunity to observe the differences between the eggs using the candler. While waiting twenty one days for the eggs to hatch, my students took turns reading to the eggs and even began side projects of growing sunflowers and mealworms to feed the chickens once they hatch. Students made the connection that chickens are omnivores!

Hatch day was incredible! The entire school tuned in to watch a live stream of the eggs in the incubator and parents tuned in from home or work. The entire school erupted in cheers when the first chicken hatched that morning; the same continued throughout the day and night as the fourth and final chicken hatched at 8 PM. Many parents reached out to me during this project thanking me for doing something their child is so excited to come home and talk about and cannot wait to go to school the next day.

All of that is thanks to you and I struggle to even find the words to express how grateful I am to have been able to facilitate such an incredible experience for so many people! The chickens are nine days old now and very happily settled into their new home with me! I have a Google Photo album of pictures and videos throughout the whole experience because the six is simply not enough. Resilient is a word to describe my students, and it is also a word to describe the adaptations of animals from an evolutionary, biological, and reproductive perspective. In fourth grade, students learn about the life cycles and adaptations of various animals with some animals provided already in their adult state. For most, life cycles are an abstract concept that is rarely witnessed, but I hope to change that with the Brinsea Maxi II Incubator Classroom Pack. I strive to create experiences for my students that are both relevant and meaningful while providing exposure to knowledge, skills, and resources otherwise unavailable to them. With this project, I will let my students experience the life cycle of a chicken in our classroom! My students will assume an active role in their learning and engage in the scientific process while recording observations, tracking data, and taking care of the eggs. The end result will be a class full of very proud, well experienced, and knowledgeable students who have successfully raised 7 eggs from an embryonic state into chicks.
