Allowing students to partake in flexible seating will greatly improve their performance within the classroom. Flexible seating allows student to choose where they sit. There are many benefits to flexible seating, such as: improved health (no more sitting all day every day), comfort, community building, collaboration, investment in their own learning and fun. Students become captains of their own learning, and feel empowered to choose a flexible seating option that works best for them. Most importantly, however, student with ADD and ADHD benefit because this type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. With more than 20% of our students having health disabilities, this type of simulation will help their performance immensely. Furthermore, flexible seating has been shown to decrease behavior issues within the classroom. I have chosen to ask for bouncy bands, which go on the students desk. Students can put their feet on them and bounce up and down, decreasing distractions within the class. A low table was selected so students can sit on the floor. Also, yoga balls so students can use them instead of chairs, and table risers so students have the option to stand at their desks.
