Set My Students Up for Success
Funded Sep 4, 2021Thank you so much for your generous donation! Your donation will go a long ways and help kids after a traumatic last year.
The learning materials like pencils, erasers, and grips will allow the kids to continue working and trying their best. The math sets will help close the achievement gap as they focus on foundational math the kids need. The organization and decor will help the kids feel calm and welcomed.
This year, we are focusing not only on academics but also rebuilding the kids’ spirits and mental health. Your donation helps make this happen. Thank you so much again for your donation and for passing these messages around. You’re making a real difference.”

Organization and Art Materials for Title I School
Funded Sep 13, 2020I want to thank you for your donation toward resources in my classroom last year. As you all know, it was a tough year. Working in person through the entire pandemic was hard, I won't gloss over that. But your help went a long way in the way the classroom was run and how the kids felt.
First of all, the organization that was bought for the classroom helped when organizing for two cohorts in the first half of the year until all the students came in full time. Then, the organization helped me actually do my job. Having all the worksheets, packets, and "when you're done challenges" in easy to find ways, I wasn't wasting time looking for things. I was able to support all my students right away with your help!!
Last year, it was especially important to focus on social emotional learning. One way we did this is through art. As you may know, I love incorporating art into the classroom in meaningful and creative ways. I also love when the kids create something that I can hang up in the classroom. With the art materials you helped donate, the kids were able to paint, draw, make cards for loved ones, and more. Using art as a way for students to express what they have learned helps lock their learning into long term memory as well as engage the learner in fun ways.
Thank you again for your support. Your donations go a long way.”

Funded Sep 20, 2020Thank you so much for your support in helping me engage with my students better this year. Teaching in a pandemic has been wild. I'm supposed to be teaching full-time in the classroom, to half the students each day, but as the course of the year has gone, I've taught in and out of the classroom. Some weeks, I'm teaching in person and others, due to COVID, I'm teaching online. Your support has meant so much because it has made the transition easier.
Your support has also helped the kids be more engaged and learn more when they are virtual. I'm able to see all their hands up and see who needs a little focusing reminder. I feel as close to being back in the classroom as possible without being back in the classroom. The monitor has been a life-saver. Thank you!
The kids are thankful for having real conversations, being talked to, not at. I love how I can quickly engage with a quick head nod to check in for understanding or thumbs up if a student agrees with something. Having the second screen has helped the kids stay more engaged throughout the hours of learning each day.”

Hands-on Learning Centers for Title 1 Students in NYC!
Funded Dec 26, 2018Thank you so much for the Literacy and Math centers for my 2nd grade students. We are using them quite often and they are improving in skills all around. For example, students are building their comprehension and phonics while also working on problem solving and communication skills. These centers bring community where students are working together and asking each other questions. They are also helpful for all the students in class. The centers are differentiated to meet the needs of all my students. The students benefit from the hands-on learning and I benefit from an easy set-up and clean up, allowing more time to learn and less time getting organized. Thank you so much for your support and donations to help bring in experiences to my classroom that my students love and learn from.”

Chromebooks for Title I Students in NYC!
Funded Aug 6, 2018Thank you so much for donating to this project! The Chromebooks are both supporting and challenging our students every day. We use them every day and not only are they engaging, they are teaching the kids important tools such research skills, collaboration, reading skills, and more. These Chromebooks also help our students gain digital literacy skills which will impact their future careers, especially for the kids who do not have access to technology at home.
We just completed a biography writing unit where students worked in partners and groups to research a community leader of their choice. Students used Myon (a kid-friendly digital library) to find information as they brainstormed for their essays. Chromebooks allowed some students to have the books read aloud as they used headphones and the words were highlighted as they read. The unit was more impactful because of the research component and digital resources. Another way we use Chomebooks is during our center time to expand the students' thinking and apply their digital literacy skills. Every day, during Math and Reading Center rotations, students can go on engaging math websites as well as Myon to find books that are interesting to them, as well as learn how to type.
Chromebooks have also been helpful with our kids with disabilities. An example is a student with ADHD who at times, needs a break and using educational websites on the computer can be a tool to help calm him down. It is also used as an incentive for a couple kids with behavioral charts as something they want to work toward.
The students love having the Chromebooks in the classroom and we use them throughout the day. These Chromebooks are faster and easier to use than the couple, very old computers that were given to us that take 15 minutes to turn on. We are using our time effectively and the kids can focus on what they need to without wasting time waiting for a computer to load. As we move forward, I want to incorporate Google Classroom (as our school just got access) so students can complete independent, partner, and group work activities through assigning work. I hope to incorporate projects where students can think outside the box and use a variety of digital tools to show their thinking related to curriculum. Last year, a finished project was a creative book report on a poster board. This year, I would love to expand that onto creating a Powerpoint presentation and presenting to the class or other creative tools to engage the students in learning.
Thank you again. Your contribution is much appreciated in our classroom every day!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Glass
