Being in a low income area, the majority of my students don't have access to their own art supplies. Having sketchbooks provided for my students would make such a difference in their art class experience! Our class starts and ends in our sketchbooks. We begin the period with a 'do now' which is an activity that channels the students inner artist and imagination. In their sketchbooks, they plan projects, sketch for inspiration, doodle to get their creativity flowing, practice art vocabulary, and reflect on finished projects. The sketchbooks are my students' main reference for learning and creativity, but they're also an amazing way for them to develop new skills and ideas. I run a very hands-on class where I love for my students to be able to explore themselves as artists and experiment with different artistic styles. Art class is something I want to be fun and carefree for my students, not an added burden to purchase supplies for. I am so excited to see what they will be able to create and explore this year with their new sketchbooks!
