The idea that movement helps the brain is not a new one! Studies has shown that proprioceptive input increases focus. Instead of teachers telling students to "sit still," we need to tell them to MOVE! My goal is to provide my students will stabiltiy cushions. These not only make a hard, plastic chair more comfortable, but it allows them to receive that proprioceptive input as they move their spine and joints from side to side. This movement leads to increased focus. In an age when children spend less and less time outside running, climbing and jumping, teachers are tasked with providing movement to students inside the classroom walls while still meeting the increasingly rigorous educational standards.
