To meet the needs of my students, I venture off of the lesson plan quite often. One specific way, is flexible seating. Flexible seating offers these kids some ownership in the classroom, that they don't receive at home. Studies show that when high poverty students have a choice or some control over their learning environment, there is a positive impact. I am working to increase the idea that our classroom community is safe by providing my students a choice in where they sit, and how they sit. These different seating choices offer students a chance to move around without being a distraction, and focus more on their education.
