Did you know that traditional ways of teaching kids in rows of desks can actually prevent a student from learning? It's true! Today's generation of kids are raised in environments where they are provided much more movement opportunities due to the options they are given to be involved in various sports, along with other factors. Many students need seating options in the classroom in order to learn in their optimal environment. That is why I would like Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seats in my classroom. Currently, my Special Education classroom has traditional classroom chairs and tables. I constantly observe my students get out of their hard chairs to take a movement break, get a drink, or stand up because they currently do not have alternative seating options. When working on independent assignments, students ask if they can work on the floor, using a chair as a table. When working in small groups at a table, I feel little feet kicking my legs (on accident) because my wiggly students are swinging their restless legs. If I were granted my request for Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seats, I would use these seats at a low-table to work with students in small groups. I would also use them as alternative seating options during direct teaching instruction for students who need to regularly switch up their seats. The thought of using flexible seating in my classroom can make a world of a difference in my student's learning. The child with ADHD can wiggle in his/her seat on the floor without distracting the kids behind him/her. The highly distractible child who leaves instruction for a drink can simply change his/her seating option quietly without disrupting instruction. It's amazing how an alternative seating option can completely change the learning environment for a child with a disability!
