My students participate in peer-to-peer education opportunities through visits and presentations to 11th and 12th grade advisory and health classes where they talk about gender, sexuality, allyship, sexual health, harm reduction, and tobacco cessation. As practiced and tech-savvy outreach workers, our students have organized their knowledge and resources into impactful, 30-minute presentations to share with their peers. We know that peers are the best teachers on these issues and Chromebook technology offers the best medium. Unfortunately, the only opportunity for my students to present to peers often happens during an advisory block when few to no laptops are available. These student leaders will reach 1,100 students this year, operating in teams of five to share their message of informed health and wellness. However, given limitations in laptop access, students will have to borrow a teacher computer or take turns scheduling classroom presentations. In order to foster students’ independence and allow for even greater outreach, our team of peer health leaders needs reliable laptop access. Access to Chromebooks will be a game-changer for this dedicated peer health team and the students whose lives it will change. With greater access to laptops, these peer educators will reach more classrooms using a medium that resonates with high school students. They work hard to share the health knowledge that’s most urgent for their peers, and the way in which their message is delivered matters.
