Every morning we have anywhere from 1 hour to an hour and a half block of time dedicated just to reading. A very important lesson I teach my students at the beginning of the year is how to select "good-fit" books for their book boxes. Good-fit books are something we continue to discuss and reteach the entire school year because if students haven't chosen books that are a "good-fit", then how will they become better readers? Now that we have picked out our "good-fit" books, where will the books be stored so they are easily accessible to the students? If this project is funded, each student will have their own book box to safely and securely store their books. Currently, we are using plastic magazine holders that are at least 10 years old. Many are cracked, chipped, don't allow for larger sized books due to their size, and old labels and stickers adorn them. Not to mention, when they fall over they make a tremendously loud sound which definitely interrupts our quiet reading time and the students lose their focus.
