  • Ghosts and Nightmares in Gothic Literature!

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

My students have just finished reading Mexican Gothic and they LOVED it! We are all so so so thankful for your support in making this possible.

My students had some very interesting discussions with this unit surrounding women's rights in 1950s Mexico and the studies of Eugenics. And in general, they connected with the main character, a Latina.

They were truly engaged with every plot twist in this book, often asking me if they could read more than what I had assigned, which is always my favorite thing to see! So again, I just wanted to thank you so much for making this possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Coriaty

  • Independent Student Choice Reading!

    Funded Oct 2, 2022

Receiving these independent books meant a lot to my students! They were able to read books that they actually picked out and that goes a long way in encouraging them to read!

In my classroom, students get to read independently every day for 8-10 minutes, so having books that they chose themselves makes a huge difference. Many of the students enjoyed the graphic novels that came in this donation. I have a lot of struggling readers and having the pictures sometimes helps a lot! Thank you so much for your generous gifts in helping us to get books that we actually want to read!”

  • Reading Is Lit!

    Funded Mar 2, 2020

Wow! Thank you so much for your tremendous support in just a few short days! My kids will love these books and they will surely be put to good use for many years to come. This will not only help them improve their reading levels but will also keep them engaged. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Coriaty

  • Collaboration and Creativity With Chromebooks!

    Funded Aug 29, 2018

The Chromebooks we received through your generous donations has greatly impacted our school year so far! Although we are only three months in, my 7th graders have already written two full essays and had the ability to type up their rough drafts and final drafts. This has been incredibly helpful as many students have been able to write more quickly and share their work with each other in order to improve it. We also no longer have to go in search of borrowing laptops from other classrooms mean more time is spent on the actual learning and productivity in class!

What is most exciting about this project for the girls is that they get to type up all of their essays and learn how to make their writing look professional. This is preparing them for college when they will have to write many essays and need many of the skills they will learn from using computers at an early age.

The ELL students I have in my classes have been particularly impacted by this project because they are able to use English language programs and audio books of what we are reading. They are also able to improve their grammar through the use of spell check in Google Drive which has been extremely helpful when it comes time to submit essays.

Overall, these computers have made our daily process of writing so much better and we are all beyond thankful for the generosity shown by others!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Coriaty

Technology can be hard to come by at a city public school. But our students shouldn't suffer from budget restrictions just because of where they live. This is why I'm asking for a set of ten Chromebooks to be used in many different ways in my middle school English classroom. With a set of Chromebooks to share, students will not only be able to type their essay assignments, but they will also benefit from the collaboration that is made easy through Google Classroom. My hope is that students will be able to share their essays with one another more efficiently and make comments for revisions. They will also be able to use various online tools to help them improve their writing, such as searching for mentor texts and grammar tools. Students who struggle with reading will be able to access audiobook versions of the novels and stories that we study in class. Students with disabilities who do not have full use of their motor skills will be able to utilize talk-to-text to write essays. English Language Learners will have access to online translators when they are stuck. The possibilities are endless! With these Chromebooks, my students will get a step ahead in a world where you need to be technology-literate to succeed.
