  • Classroom Robotics Builds Leaders of Tomorrow

    Funded Dec 26, 2023

Thank you so much for contributing to this project. The tiles, antistatic playing field and aluminum parts will help my students as they strive to learn.

My students will be amped up and ready for these new parts when they return from winter break. I am sure the first thing they will do is put the playing field together.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Leturgez

  • Hot for Science!

    Funded Jan 29, 2020

Your donations have made doing experiments that required things to be heated become easier. Before the new hot plates, we had to use hot pots to get water hot. This caused many errors in the experiments. Since the hot plates, experiments have been easier to complete because the water can now be kept at a consistent temperature.

At first, my students were like hot plates, oh. When they completed their first experiment with them they were excited. To top it all off, they no longer had to sit there and continuously stir the mixture because it was a self-stirred hot plate. Their observations of what was happening became more exciting to them as they now could see the changes taking place.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Leturgez

  • Take Classroom Robotics to the Next Level, Competition

    Funded Aug 17, 2023

My students and I want to thank you so much for making this project become real. Prior to being able to physically see what their robots had to be able to do, they had to watch videos of others. Now they can see what their robots are able to do as they program them.

With in a few days of the project being funded the material arrived. A custodian brought the materials to my classroom. When the students realized what it was, they wanted to start putting it together immediately. Over the next few days they put the playing field together. Students where starting to visualize what their robots would have to do.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Leturgez

  • Experimentation With Stools Not Desks!

    Funded Jun 13, 2019

The stools were a big hit with my students. They no longer have to stand at the lab tables to complete hands-on activities. We want to thank each and every donor for your donation. Although I no longer teach at the school the stools are still being used by classes that use the dedicated lab classroom where teachers bring their classes to work on science labs and other hands-on activities.

Your donations made it possible for students to more time focusing on the activity instead of moving around due to long periods of standing.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Leturgez

This classroom project was brought to life by General Motors and 8 other donors.
In my Biology class, there are several lab work stations, few lab stools, and plenty of "L-shaped" student desks. Because of logistical reasons, many of the experiments supporting comprehension of the science content being presented has been modified due to the space that the student desks provide. Experiments have been attempted at the work stations, however, students end up meandering to their desks to record information. Having stools facilitates group work. Students seem to participate more when they can sit and perform the experiment with their peers. For example, when using glassware such as beakers, flasks, and graduated cylinders becomes a safety issue while working at student desks because of the slight angle of the workspace. Their desk space is limited compared to the lab tables. They have access to a greater workspace as opposed to their small desks. Performing lab experiments at the lab stations where they can sit and observe more easily at eye level made easier with stools, is important for accurate data collection. When they are close to the lab stations, there is easier access to lab equipment such as the sinks where there is water. Sometimes it is even necessary to move quickly during an experiment. Moving a lab stool out of the way is much quicker, and safer than getting out of a regular desk where your books and supplies might be in the way causing potential accidents that are unnecessary.
