Students having their own dictionary to use will empower them to learn more words and improve their writing skills. Our students don't have a large vocabulary and the words we take for granted can perplex them. I want my students to have the power to learn new words without having to ask Google or Siri! Dictionary skills are becoming a lost art but I feel they are still vital to learning. When it comes to standardized testing, technology will not help them and they will need to know how to use a real dictionary in order to be successful in the classroom.
