Mathematicians are not often the type of celebrity that children are exposed to in their lives. The books in this project, will be used to expose young mathematicians to the amazing lives of mathematicians like, Sohpie Germain, Raye Montague, and Katherine Johnson. These stories can plant the seed in the mind of young mathematicians that one day, they too can use their mathematical thinking to change the world! The only way to learn mathematics is to DO mathematics - Paul Halmos, mathematician. The timers, scales, metric weight set, and graduated cylinders will be used in exploration stations during our measurement module. These materials will give young mathematicians the opportunity to measure precisely, make mistakes, and measure again! This will help to give them knowledge they need to estimate measurements as well. The pentominoes, and tangrams will provide students with materials they need to DO geometry during our geometry module. The centimeter cubes and blank dice are for the games that students often create to practice math facts. It is truly amazing what students create when given the materials to nurture their thinking!
