I have taught kindergarten for 18 years and am in my 15th year in my current classroom and school. Many of the materials I have are getting old and are in need of replacing. With the never ending cuts to education, there is just not money available to replace things in our classrooms. The money we receive to fund our classrooms is mostly used for things like construction paper, glue, paint, markers, etc. These consumable supplies must be replaced every year and leave little to no extra to replace larger items that wear out over time. I am a firm believer in maintaining a developmentally appropriate classroom and know the importance of play! As Dr. Fred Rogers said, "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood." Please help us replace some of our materials so my 24 kindergarteners can grow their imaginations and continue to learn through play! The will love using the new couch, table and chair set, and kitchen play sets to expand creative play. These items will encourage the use of their imaginations while allowing them to role play. The multicultural food set will be especially helpful due to the large amount of international students that come to our school due to the close proximity of Clemson University.
