Children learn in different ways. They may be visual, auditory, or tactile learners. Worksheets don't grow dendrites! This means that worksheets don't involve all learning styles! Hands-on activities engage kids who are tactile learners, who need movement to learn best. They also engage students who are auditory learners, who talk about what they're doing, and visual learners, who have the opportunity to see what everyone else is creating. I am requesting hands-on fraction games and manipulatives to involve all types of learners. I am also requesting a Chromebook because there are so many fraction games online for my students. Math is always more fun when students have a manipulative to use to explore the concepts. In the past, my students have struggled with fraction concepts. Students learn faster by doing and by manipulating objects to connect the concrete actions to abstract thinking. I want math to be more than a worksheet. We will use these fraction manipulatives as we explore fraction concepts, making learning easier and quicker for each student. They will also get lots of practice on the Chromebook. Many of my students come from homes with little support and they often come to me with gaps in foundational skills.
