Exercise Does the Mind and Body Good
Funded Sep 27, 2021My students and I have been using the wonderful materials you donated to our program. We have an exercise club that meets after school. There are approximately 20 students who stay and work out. Most days we have three stations with three different exercises. For example, the medicine balls are awesome for abdominal exercises and also to use during wall sits or lunges where we take the balls over head. Students love to play basketball and we teach them how to make good passes and how to dribble and shoot. The agility ladder works well for a cardio work out where students have to run through or jump in and out of the ladder. The giant jenga is great for team building activities.
When the students first saw all of the new equipment they got so excited. Teaching them the value of exercising is something I feel very passionate about. Not only does it help their bodies but it's great for their minds as well. Students have found that exercising can be really fun and it builds camaraderie between them and it gives them self confidence in their everyday lives. Your generous donations have meant so much to me and to my students.”

Funded Jul 24, 2020Returning to school during a pandemic is both terrifying and definitely a territory that none of us have ever experienced. When I was thinking about how I could keep both my students and myself safe from Covid 19, I felt like an air purifier would be essential to keeping us all a little safer.
The air purifier helps put my mind at ease a little bit knowing that I'm circulating and cleaning the air. Along with other safety precautions we are taking at my school, it ensures the health and safety of both me and my students.
I can't thank my donors enough for this gift. It has eased my mind a little bit in this crazy pandemic we are all finding our way through. Thank you so much for everything.”

Funded Nov 7, 2018My students were so excited when the boxes came with the yoga mats in them. You can see through the photos how happy and excited they were to receive them. When I told them I had been funded for the mats they were all so happy and kept asking me when they coming. I explained to them how kind and generous people were to donate money for our classroom. We've been learning a lot about acts of kindness so this was a wonderful example of what kindness can do.
We have used the yoga mats a few times since we've gotten them. The first time was for a reward for being respectful, responsible and ready to learn. My students voted on a reward that they wanted to participate in. Some of the options were, ice cream sundae party, movie and popcorn, dance party and a yoga class. They chose yoga. Yoga is a wonderful way for them to move their bodies and calm their minds. They absolutely love doing it. They ask me all the time, CAN WE DO YOGA? Another opportunity they had to use them was during an after school program that encourages students to exercise and stay fit. It was wonderful to see all of the colorful mats being used. After class, we wiped them down and rolled them all up. We also made a beautiful box to keep our mats in.
These mats will be used in my classroom for years to come. I love sharing with my students my love of yoga and show them how to use the strategies to help them in problem areas in their lives. Mindfulness and meditation are tools that we can all use to create a happier healthier body and mind. Namaste!!”
