  • 21st Century Learning in a Special Education Classroom!

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

The first semester of our school year has been unlike any other year we have experienced. We started out the year in remote learning. About a month later the student's were back in the classroom after being at home for almost 7 months.

The transition back into In-Person Learning was very smooth. Luckily, due to your giving spirit, our classroom was full of the iPads we needed to support students learning. Because of your generosity they have personalized learning on their own device. They use the iPads for Literacy and Math. They use apps that focus on building the skills specified to their learning needs. The students have become independent in their learning as well. They can get their iPad when asked and go to the lesson they are working on with little to no assistance. I have loved seeing the children take ownership of their learning. It has built confidence. They are so proud of their work.

We are extremely grateful for your giving to our classroom and students. There are no words that could truly express my gratitude.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Arms

  • Exceptional Seating for Exceptional Children!

    Funded May 22, 2019

Thank you for the flexible seating you provided my classroom and students. We were all so excited when the many boxes arrived! The excitement was contagious! The children helped me unpack the boxes, and place the seating around our classroom. It was such a fun day!

We are using the flexible seating throughout the classroom. Students can grab a cushion to use in their classroom chair, or to sit on the floor while working. They tell me that it makes sitting so much more comfortable. The stability balls help the students focus during lessons. They bounce and learn!

Your generosity is greatly appreciated by everyone in our room. They students love to pile on the bean bags and read together. It is a wonderful sight to see. Thank you for helping me create a warm and comfortable learning environment.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Arms

  • Creating a 21st Century Special Education Classroom!

    Funded Jul 10, 2018

The 2018-2019 school year has been amazing! This is due to your giving spirit. Because of your generosity my students have been able to personalized learning on their own iPads! They use the iPads for Literacy and Math. They use apps that focus on building the skills specified to their learning needs. The students have become independent in their learning as well. iPads are greatly needed in my classroom. Currently, we do not have an iPad for every student. The apps we use focus on building literacy, math and fine motor skills. The apps allow me to customize a profile for each student to meet their educational needs. However, with many apps, they can only be customized for one child per iPad. That leaves some students without a customized iPad to meet their needs. Having an iPad for each student is also one way a child can learn to work independently in my classroom. During our classroom rotations, when it is their turn for the app focus of the activity, they feel prideful when independently getting an iPad and opening the app they will be using. They will also help one another if a peer is having difficulty with their iPad. We have found wonderful apps for the children in our special education program that are interactive, and can easily be used by student's without a teacher's support. My student's light up when accomplishing anything independently. As a Special Education teacher, I work to ensure that my students have the same opportunities as general education students. This includes my classroom being 1:1 with technology like our general education classes. I want them to be exposed to 21st Century learning so they will have a better understanding of the world around them. By donating to this project, you will not only help build a child's academic foundation, but also assist in achieving the social/emotional goal of independence.
