  • Growing Our Brains!

    Funded Mar 26, 2025

Thank you for the gift of Jr. BrainPop. I think when I created this project I had just realized that my subscription had expired. That left me with some lesson plans that I had to rework.

Then, when this project got funded, I kept trying each day to pull up videos that supported my lessons. Apparently, it took longer than just getting the project funded to get the subscription renewed, so we had some hilarity each afternoon trying to get in! But, everything is A-OK, now and we are able to learn with Annie and Moby once again.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. O.

  • Trigraphs, Vowels, and Rude R—Oh, Y!

    Funded Mar 26, 2025

Thanks for these decodable books. Trigraphs and r-controlled vowels are a big focus of our literacy curriculum right now, so we will be able to get these books right to work on our small, guided reading groups.

I find that when my students are exposed to new literacy concepts, they like to find examples in other places. These readers are going to be the perfect pairing to our current lessons. I can just hear my kids now: Look! It's Rude R! And, "These three letters make one sound!"

I am happy to give my kids the opportunity to apply the foundational skills they learn in class.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. O.

  • Proof Is in the Printing!

    Funded Mar 25, 2025

Thank you for your donation of ink cartridges for our classroom printer. As a teacher, I can tell you how convenient it is to have a classroom printer for unpredictable circumstances. The cost of ink is just not sustainable on a teacher's salary.

We have been getting familiar with digital literacy in our classroom. My students love to create on their devices and then see the printed product. For example, we practice manuscript writing often in first grade. However, we have also started writing using our tablets. The kids are getting quite proficient at keyboarding. Seeing the printed product is motivating for them.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. O.

  • Vowels and Digraphs

    Funded Mar 25, 2025

Thank you for supporting reading foundations in our classroom. Young learners understand when you tell them that the Sneaky e comes at the end of a word, is silent, and makes the middle vowel sound say its name. It takes some repetition and practice, but they understand it. However, they need application opportunities in order to recognize and decode Sneaky e words on their own. These decodable readers allow me to help my kids get those opportunities.

Additionally, the concept of digraphs can be confusing for young learners. Decodable digraph book sets gives us the opportunity to work in small, guided groups to gain mastery.”

  • Learning to Decode!

    Funded Mar 26, 2025

Thank you for supporting reading foundations in our classroom. Short vowels are some of the first phonics lessons that we get, so we can get a lot of use out of short vowel decodable readers throughout and entire school year.

Blends are introduced a little later and are also a harder concept for young learners to get the hang of. They can make blend sounds easy enough, but application is key to understanding. The decodable books give my kids immediate application opportunities as we learn various blends.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. O.

  • Reading Ready!

    Funded Apr 9, 2025

Thanks for helping us boost our curricula with decodables and biographies. Having some background knowledge about these people from history from our social studies classes helps the kids make connections as they are practicing reading. Anything that can be done to make learning fun should be done. We appreciate your generosity.”

  • Benefits of Biographies

    Funded Apr 9, 2025

Thanks for your donation. Many of these biographies are of people whom we already study in first grade. As far as the others, I can’t wait to expose my kids to biographies of people that they may already know something about and have a desire to learn more details.”

  • Decoding With Vowels!

    Funded Apr 9, 2025

Thanks for supporting reading in first grade. My class was excited to open other relevant decodable books in the recent past.

I can’t wait to use these texts in Guided Reading for a long time to come. We appreciate your commitment to our classroom materials and our academic growth.”

My students regularly deal with trauma in many forms: poverty, homelessness, hunger, abuse, imprisonment of family members, etc. Their young minds often find it difficult to concentrate on their studies for any length of time. All of my students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. Often, school meals are the only food they eat in a day. Concentration and putting forth the energy needed for learning is difficult, although they are curious. My students crave new experiences and information. My students like to experiment with different types of technology and media. I love watching them make connections in our ELA center activities.
