Future Engineers and Technologists!
Funded Mar 2, 2020I am writing this letter to thank you for the Lego sets my classroom received. The Lego sets will enhance my student's learning. When I speak to them about earthquakes they will have the opportunity to explore the origin and nature of earthquakes. They will also create and program a device that would allow them to test building designs. I feel that hands-on projects are the best way students can learn about a particular subject.
Unfortunately, because of Covid-19 we, teachers and students, have not been in the school since March 16th. I feel that students will be so fascinated using Legos to express their creativity. They have used Legos before and their excitement is so contagious. I didn't have enough sets for a classroom so 4 students had to share one set, which became very difficult for all students to remain engaged. Having these new sets will alleviate the stress of so many students using one set.
One of our future project will entail plants and pollinators. Students will explore how different organisms take an active role in plant reproduction. Students will then create and program a model of a bee and flower to mimic the relationship between the pollinator and the plant.
Once again thank you so much for your support in helping my students!”

Robotics and Girl Power!
Funded Aug 24, 2018I want to express my sincere appreciation. This was my first time asking for supplies for my students and the joy that I feel having received the donation is beyond words. At the moment we are using the Wedo during club time, which is on Fridays in the afternoon. The students were so excited to use them that one particular student who gets picked up by a counselor begged her if he can stay. Students have not only started creating different object but have also collaborated with other students to expend their creation. I find this exceptional because many of my students are in households that are unpleasant but to see the excitement and comradery they have amongst the other students is incredible. If this gesture can change an outlook for just a few hours then it is so worth it. I am so pleased with their progress.
When my students first saw the kits they were excited initially because it's Legos, but when I showed them that not only are able to build with the legos but also program it, they were ecstatic! They couldn't build quick enough to start the programming, that is the excitement needed in the classrooms.
My next step is to rotate among the three fifth grade classes in my school so that other students may get an opportunity to explore and create with the Wedo kits. Sometimes I take for granted that all students are exposed to so many in this world but then realize that what they are exposed to is not for any child to experience. So when I see children acting like children their age it warms my heart!
So, we really do appreciate the contributions you have provided to make future leaders to our country.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Smith-Stephen
