Each lab will be set up in a storage container so that the students will be able to begin their work on their own. The students will be studying the rock cycle. The students will be using different products like mineral collections, rock collections (igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary), copper wire, streak plates, magnifying glass, alum, vegetable oil, dark paper, glass plates to identify unknown minerals. They will also learn about the different types of rocks and how they were formed. The students will be creating three dimensional land formations with homemade play dough in order make their own topographic map. They will be using rolling pins, homemade play dough (using flour, oil, cream of tartar, food color, sugar and rulers to understand how plates shift and different landforms are formed. The students will be studying ocean currents. The students will be using food color, a funnel, water bottles, clear glass jars, ice, salt, pens overhead pens, sharpies and zip lock bags to analyze water density and temperature to see how ocean currents work.
