Special Education in Baltimore City has not done our students with special needs any favors. The odds are truly stacked against my boys when you take into consideration Socio-Economic Status, Race, and even the culture of city schools. With that being said, the items on my list will provide a comfortable learning environment. Bean bag chairs will provide my students with selective seating opportunities so they can learn comfortably. Pencil grips to satisfy my students tactile needs. Bouncy bands for desks for students who need to move their legs while they work. Sensory fidgets for students to keep their hands busy while learning. Math manipulatives such as the big clock to assist students in understanding time. I'm driven by my passion for Education and working with students with special needs to really provide my students with not only an equitable learning environment, but the skills for self advocacy. The materials above will go towards my class full of students with unique needs. It will create a classroom that it is build to abide by Universal Design for Learning (UDL). This is in place so all students can access to the lesson and curriculum despite individual needs.
