  • iPad for Speech and Language Therapy!

    Funded Mar 11, 2022

The IPad I was able to purchase with your donation has made a HUGE impact on my kids. My non-speaking students are able to use a variety of communication apps which I has customised with pictures of important things and people so they can better make their needs and wants known.

One great feature of the Apple iPad is guided access: this feature allows me to limit use to one application at a time. This prevents students from mindlessly switching between tasks and stick to one activity at a time. It's a great hidden feature that many parents aren't aware of!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lyons

  • Speaking, Listening and Expanding Understanding in Speech Therapy

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous contribution towards my project. As you can probably see from the pictures, the items you helped to provide are hands-on learning materials that really engage the students imaginations. Telling a story in to the microphone and hearing it back offers these language impaired students the chance to practice speaking clearly and using interesting vocabulary in a highly motivating way.

The high interest picture cards offer countless opportunities for students to tell stories, learn how make inferences, and relate to the world around them.

Again, thank you so much for all your support,”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lyons

All children benefit from hands-on learning opportunities, but for children with speech and language difficulties, these opportunities are essential. When children struggle to learn from more traditional instruction, interactive, engaging and multi sensory input is crucial for them to gain the skills their peers acquire more easily. Hands-on book companion sets help children to visualize and comprehend story concepts more easily. Being able to manipulate and play with story elements make literacy more enticing for struggling learners. Visual literacy strategies such as sequencing pocket charts and graphic organizers can help students grasp ideas and express themselves (in their personalised interactive notebooks) more coherently.
