Many of my students will never have an opportunity to see or touch real fish such as the replica ones I am requesting. Giving them a rubber fish that has the size, scale, proportions and realistic details will allow them to experience the traditional Japanese tradition of Gyotaku, fish printing. The history of this rich, cultural experience will be a great learning experience. Then, to follow up the lesson by creating art pieces using non-consumable (no allergy concerns, with no need to constantly replace the fish every couple of classes and no adverse reactions to the sight or smell of real, dead fish in the classroom) will truly be a fun, exciting and fully hands-on experience. The former art teacher left 6 rubber fish in the storage room. The kids LOVE doing the fish printing lesson but there is too much down time, waiting for their turns with only 6 fish in classes that have 22 kids. Having 6 sets with 9 different species will mean that no student will have to wait in order to create a fish print. Many students will create multiple prints.
