Show Everyone in School the Book You Are Reading Now
Funded Jul 1, 2018There is nothing like color to bring a display to life. The new color printer our school received as a result of the Donors Choose program and its generous donors has made a marked improvement in the attractiveness of our bulletin boards and posters.
One of the main goals of the librarians in our school is to encourage a love of reading in our students. We create posters which hang in the hallway outside the library which feature the covers of the books that students, and some teachers, are currently reading. The book covers we printed in black and white just weren't attracting our students' attention. They were drab and dull. Now our posters are eye catching and our circulation of library books is increasing.
The students at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School come from many different countries. Fifty-eight different languages are spoken at home by the students in our school. The English language is the common denominator for them. They speak English at school to communicate with their classmates and they speak English as many of them learn to navigate life in a new country. It is important that they read and enjoy books published in English. It adds to their facility with the language and helps them prepare for their futures.
Thank you for helping them on their way!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Plassman
