I am Special Education Teacher at CLES. I service grades Kindergarten - 4th grade for reading, math, writing and behavior . My behavior students come into my room multiple time within a school day they check in with me in the morning and out at the end of the day. They also have scheduled breaks or the option to take a break if needed. My students also use fidgets, chew necklace and weighted blankets. My goal for them is that they are able to self regulate and learn to use them in their classrooms. We will be using the ZONES of Regulation to monitor their emotions and tools such as breathing balls, yoga cards , Thera Putty, and other sensory tools to teach them how to regulate. These tool will be utilized throughout the day in both the special education and classroom setting .
An iPad will be an effective tool in teaching my students to regulate their emotions with mindfulness. The iPad will only have meditation apps and will be part of my classrooms Peace Corner. Having an iPad with apps will allow students to use mindfulness independently while I continue to teach my small groups in my special education classroom.
