My students need different seating options, such as saucer chairs and bungee chairs for several different reasons. Many of my kiddos struggle to simply fit into the desks offered. Having larger seats available saves them from embarrassment and discomfort. The saucer chairs are made for a much larger person than a hard, narrow desk. Second, many of my students come from lower-income homes. When offered a seat that is different, or "special", they tend to cooperate more fully in class. I have one such chair already and I have observed the difference it can make with a student. Saucer and bungee chairs are brightly colored and fun, but still very practical for the classroom. The aloha chair looks like a bean bag, but will still give students the support needed to grow academically. When using seats like the ones requested, clipboards are a necessity. Therefore, I have requested a down of those as well. Finally, students like options. If you give them the choice of where and how to work, they can choose what works best for them. The items selected by me for this project will hopefully encourage my students to listen and learn.
