The 21st century children enjoy movement during the day. Regular classroom environments have been around for many years without major changes. I am willing to change my mindset to match what is best for my students. I research to learn how it benefits my learners. Being able to sit in different types of seats to focus on their best work is my goal while empowering them to practice decision making, problem solving skills and resolving conflicts. Flexible seating gives students the option of moving around the classroom to where they are comfortable. This increases brain function which increases learning. Students also learn the life long skill of sharing by having a variety of seating options for them to choose from. Furthermore, my students collaborate during the day and sit as a class in the front of the room. When this occurs, my students are in very close quarters with little extra space. We also have to move desks and chairs when sitting as a whole group. In order to have easier movement in the classroom, I want to replace some desks with flexible seating. For this to take place, I am looking to have a variety of seating options. Cushions help students that need tactile feeling without disturbing others. Floor chairs are a good option for sitting on the floor without having to sit at a desk. Camp chairs also give students the comfort of a chair without sitting at a desk. My students take tests, read, partner and group work around the room. Having these seats will help make a classroom a more comfortable environment to work in every day.
