Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and begin making choices about their best work environment. During independent work times, they can choose to work in a space that is most comfortable and productive for them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting in bucket seats with clipboards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. Providing a comfortable work space is a huge motivator for students. While my students see it as a special treat to sit somewhere 'different', the teacher in me sees a perfectly disguised way to increase student on task behavior. They tend to make good choices about where they sit, get work done quickly and efficiently, and are less likely to interrupt their classmates. With the classroom environment becoming more stressful as the curriculum becomes more rigorous and demanding, students need an opportunity to expel energy and movement. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The wobble cushions can be added student chairs or used in stand alone situations while providing a safe manner to move. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. The comfy floor seats and the beanbag chairs will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily moved to meet the needs of the students in daily instruction. The lapdesks will provide students a stable work surface. The floor seats will provide students a specific learning place during instruction on the carpet. The balance ball seats will provide students the opportunity to bounce or roll while maintaining safety with the stability legs.
