Reading Chairs for Independent Reading

Funded Jun 16, 2019

Teaching special ed children holds dear to my heart. My kids, even with their disabilities, are very intelligent students with great potential. I noticed that they were having difficulty staying focused during independent reading when they were at their seats. Last year I had them bring in pillows for quiet reading time. I discovered that they were able to read independently for twenty minutes when they felt comfortable. This gave me the idea to reach out to get these chairs for them. My students take out the chairs and independently read for twenty minutes each day. This allows them to increase their reading abilities and stamina.

When the students first saw the chairs they were very excited. I set some ground rules and we practiced taking them out and putting them away. They have been very responsible with them. They love being able to sit back and read books at their independent level. I have noticed that as they read more, they become more confident in their reading.

With your donation, you have given my students the opportunity to reach their full potential and make reading fun. For that, I am extremely grateful. Thank you for your generosity.”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Nadler
