Fueling Innovation in a Stem Classroom
Funded Nov 11, 2023The introduction of a reliable pencil sharpener, convenient charging stations, and accessible class sets of calculators and headphones has significantly enhanced my students' learning experience. The pencil sharpener ensures that students always have sharp writing tools, minimizing interruptions and allowing for seamless note-taking and engagement in activities. The charging stations cater to the technological needs of the students, ensuring that their devices are powered and ready for use, promoting a more integrated and technology-driven learning environment. The availability of class sets of calculators and headphones has particularly excited students, as it allows for collaborative exploration of mathematical concepts and enables focused engagement with multimedia resources.
The most exciting aspect for students is the convenience and accessibility of these tools, facilitating a more streamlined and efficient classroom experience. The reliable pencil sharpener means they no longer face interruptions or distractions when needing a sharpened pencil. The charging stations ensure that their devices are always ready for use, promoting seamless integration of technology into their learning process. The availability of class sets of calculators and headphones excites them as it opens up new avenues for interactive and multimedia learning experiences.
Certain students, especially those who are technologically inclined or thrive in interactive learning environments, have particularly warmed to the new technology tools. They appreciate the ease of access to calculators for collaborative problem-solving and the immersive learning experiences facilitated by headphones during multimedia-rich lessons. Additionally, they don't feel pressured when I show a video in class because they know they can always get a pair of headphones & watch the video on their own. So this allows students (like my special education or English learner students) to slow down or pause the video and go back to rewatch sections. This technology integration has resonated positively with students who embrace a more dynamic and interactive approach to their studies.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Nevada Department of Education.Tools for Drawing & Modeling Science
Funded Aug 2, 2023Thank you for donating to my classroom & helping me provide my students with the tools to model the various science concepts with colorful diagrams and sketches. Many of my students are visual learners and my Geoscience class curriculum is heavy on modeling. As a result, your donations have helped me do a better job of making my students' diagrams and images come to life. For example, when we did our Properties of Water Lab, we were still waiting for materials, and so many students had to wait to use specific colors in their group to add to their lab diagrams. However, when we received the colored pencils, markers, and crayons, they were excited because they had CHOICES in how they wanted to add color to their diagrams for the Modeling a Watershed Lab.
Through your donations, we were able to end the first quarter of our school year with the Water Cycle project where students chose 2 parts of the cycle and explained it using cartoons/drawings of how they see these processes in everyday life. While there was a writing component as well, the students mainly enjoyed showing their creativity and they didn't have to worry about not having the right colors or having to wait for someone else to be done with the color they needed. Moving forward, I plan to incorporate more foldables into my lessons to make the students' interactive notebooks more "interactive." All of the supplies I received will continue to help me with that goal since my students will be able to model science & increase their understanding using color.”
