Biographies for Social Studies!
Funded Aug 13, 2021A special note of thanks for supporting our Social Studies classroom library. By adding biographies to our library, you have helped make history more meaningful for 8th graders. As a teaching philosophy, I try to teach students about the people of history not just the facts they deem boring information. By teaching them about the people behind the facts, I find that they are able to personalize what they are learning, build empathy for people and circumstances.
Your generous donations are building curiosity in my 8th grade students. The books I have on display are some of the books your donations purchased. Students ask to check them out and use them for their choice reading books. Additionally, I use the books in class in a variety of ways. Sometimes I use them to introduce a new person from history, other times I use them to add a different perspective of an event than the textbook.
Donating to this one project has allowed me to provide resources for many students not only this current school year, but the books will remain in my classroom library for years to come. I appreciate your time in reading my project and the money you donated to improve the quality of education in my classroom.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Wahl

Funded Aug 3, 2018Thank you so much for supporting my Social Studies classroom. By adding biographies to my class, you have helped make history more personal for 7th and 8th graders. As a teaching philosophy, I try to teach my students about the people of history not just the facts they deem boring information. By teaching them about the people behind the facts, I find that they are able to personalize what they are learning, build empathy for people and circumstances.
Your generous donations are building curiosity in my 8th grade students. As we implement the Readers Workshop in our Language Arts classes, students are naturally drawn to classroom libraries. The books I have on display are some of the books your donations purchased. Students ask to check them out and use them for their choice reading books. Additionally, I use the books in class in a variety of ways. Sometimes I use them to introduce a new person from history, other times I use them to add a different perspective of an event than the textbook.
Your books are also helping my 7th graders complete their Social Studies work sample. Students have to research a person of their choice that has made an impact on history. Students are too quick to go to Ondine resources and our school library has limited biography resources so your donation has allowed me to provide accurate resources in class.
