Math Madness!
Funded Aug 24, 2022Thank you so much for your generous contribution. Our class now has a math manipulative library! The decimal grids came in handy during our addition and subtraction with decimals unit. We learned how to shade in the correct decimal amount and show that 0.6 decimals shaded in is equivalent to 60/100 boxes shaded in.
We can't wait to use the fraction strips, connecting cubes, rulers, protractors and geometric shapes in later units this year.
Thank you for making math more hands on and fun for my students!”

These books will be used in research clubs during our civil rights unit in which students will write their own research books about women's rights and about the the right to vote. My students behave already started to borrow these books to read!”

Funded Mar 23, 2021Thank you for your generosity! We now have multiple sets of fantasy books for students to meet in much smaller book clubs. In the past group sizes were 6 or higher. With your contribution, I have enough variety in fantasy books to make intimate groupings.
Reading takes place in the morning. During a typical day, students first meet for a mini lesson and then break off into small groups. They read for 30 minutes and jot findings in their post-its or notebooks. They then begin their book club discussions.
The level of excitement towards reading has increased dramatically due to these new sets of books. During lunch, I have heard discussions of plans of what students want to read next because of their overall excitement. Thank you for this!”

Reading takes place in the morning. On a typical day after the mini-lesson, students meet in their level based groups. They read for 30 minutes and then use post-its and notebooks to jot down findings that they share with their group. I also use the time to confer with small groups and teach strategies related to their needs.
Seymour Simon and Gail Gibbon books are loved in my classroom. Thank you so much for fulfilling my students' wishlist.”

Help Sow Seeds of Change: Civil Rights Books
Funded Apr 5, 2021Thank you for your generous contribution! As you can see we now have two completely full bins of civil rights books. What is amazing about the books that are in these bins is that we have multiple copies for students to read simultaneously in small groupings.
In our class, we typically have a mini-lesson and then break off into small groups to read our leveled texts independently. We then share and discuss our findings and questions that we have about the text.
All of my students have enjoyed these civil rights texts. We have an entire unit devoted to the Civil Rights Movement. Thank you for filling our library with leveled texts related to the civil rights. The texts are at different levels which provide access to all learners.
Thank you again!”

Author Study Book Clubs!
Funded May 12, 2021Thank you for your generous donation! These books have been critical during our book clubs unit. Students have used these books to meet in groups of four. This allowed students to meet in small enough groups in order to have rich meaningful discussions about the text.
On a typical day, students meet in book clubs in the morning after our mini-lesson. Students make a plan to read for 30 minutes, jot their findings in post-its and have discussions about character motivation, theme, problems or setting of the text.
The books have been a hit in our classroom. Students continue to ask if I have more books written about these authors.”

Book Club Mania!
Funded Jan 18, 2020Thank you again for your generosity! The books all arrived in pristine condition. These new books in the classroom have filled our library bins with higher level books such as S, T, U, V, W. Since this is our first cohort of 5th graders at Bronx Delta, your contribution is truly making a difference and an impact with much needed learning materials needed in the 5th grade.
We have already finished two of the books as a class during our shared reading block. The students absolutely loved Rahld Dahl's Witches that they are eager to get their hands on James and the Giant Peach. We also just finished reading Maniac Magee and there is a wait list of students that are eager to read Wringer.
These books also arrived just in the nick of time- before schools switched over to remote learning due to world-wide health concerns, so many of our students were able to take these books home to read while we continue our learning over Google Classroom. Thank you again!”

Funded Jul 9, 2019We are well into our third full week of school. I and my students cannot thank you enough for your contribution. Your support has increased the moral in my classroom.
We started the year discussing what we can do to foster a positive classroom environment. This became our Class Contract (rules). All students signed our contract agreeing to follow the follows. Each time they are show a positive behavior (showing kindess, respect, listening, safety or trying their personal best), students recieved a point. Every Friday, students are able to spend their points on treasures and prizes that you have contributed to our classroom! The prizes are a huge hit and always leave a smile on students faces. The best part of your support is that, students have been focused on demonstrating positive behaviors that there have been no behavior issues in the classroom. Thank you again!”
