All of these hands-on materials will allow my students to grow as early learners and further develop their fine motor skills. My students come from low-income communities and many do not have the opportunity to participate in these activities at home. They genuinely look forward to coming to school and participating in activities and playing with new toys. These students light up and are more engaged when they get to use hands-on materials, such as putty and playdough, to explore and expand their interests. My students are able to sustain their attention and have fun when playing with playdough to create different shapes or go on a little treasure hunt with the putty. Without these materials, my students would not be able to expand their play skills or further develop the skills necessary for Kindergarten next year. With the transition back to in-person learning, it is more important to give these students the opportunity for learning in a safe way. They will each get their own pencil box of supplies and materials that they get to call their own and use to gain more fine motor skills. These materials will fit into the pencil boxes and allow the children to have their independence back.
