Our classroom is designed to support students' development through play based learning. Throughout the day, we have group activities, individual activities, and free play time that the teachers in the class combine with play activities to help students meet their individual goals. The curriculum we use focuses on participation, communication, imitation, and problem solving, along with other objectives.
This project will provide us with materials that will enhance the curriculum and help the students build these particular skills as well as generalize the skills to new activities. The classroom materials we would like to purchase with this grant fit into four categories. The first category is cause effect toys, such as toys that light up, makes noises, or have buttons to push. These toys will support our learners who are still exploring play that is typical of a 6-18 month range. We would like to get a push and spin toy, a ring stacker, and a busy box. The next category is fine motor. These toys help improve fine motor and problem solving skill development. With this project, we would like to add mega blocks, puzzles, art supplies, and a set of tweezers. There are a few items to add to our dramatic play center. We already have hats and community helpers outfits, but we would like to have tiaras, sunglasses, and a purse to add for our little ladies!
All of the items in this grant will directly relate to our theme based curriculum and our supplemental special education curriculum. They will not only help the students build up these skills, but they will support STEM activities, vocabulary building, and many other important skills.
