If my project is funded, I plan to allow students to use the bean bag chairs around the room for Independent Reading. Associating independent reading as a comfortable and fun activity will help promote all students' love of literacy. An author writes, "Studies have shown that the areas that control cognitive and motor functions overlap with each other in the brain, which suggests that it might become easier for people to concentrate when they are doing something physical" (Quora). The desk bands will be ideal for students who tap their feet to focus while they are seated. Lap trays will be a wonderful tool for small group work on the Reading Carpet, or around the room. The students will love a mobile desk that will also keep their supplies organized. The stools will replace metal chairs for students who learn best on a non-traditional type of seat.
